PCTFE is a homopolymer of chlorotrifluorothylene. It has a chemical structure similar to that of PTFE but with one chlorine atom substituted for a fluorine atom in the repeat group.
At Fluorocarbon, we manufacture semi-finished products such as rod, tube and sheet by extrusion and compression moulding. We also offer finished machine and injection moulded components.
Properties
- Unique properties include melt processability and excellent chemical resistance
- Use temperature ranging from -240°c to 200°c
- Low creep and cold flow
- Good ultraviolet stability/ High optical transparency
- Low coefficient of thermal expansion
- Excellent electrical insulating properties
- Non-flammability
Applications
- PCTFE is an ideal choice for many critical applications in the chemical, electrical, electronic, medical and mechanical equipment fields.
- Valve Seats, Seals, Gaskets, Sight Glasses, Laboratory Equipment, Medical Equipment, Electronic Equipment
- Mechanical Components for example Gears, Cams, Bearings and many more…
- The properties of PCTFE moulding materials are specified in ASTMS D1430 and the properties of finished products are specified in SAE AMS-3650
Quality
The Zero strength test time (ASTM D1430) carried out on PCTFE is used to check the molecular weight of the material. Thus giving an excellent indication of the quality of finished processed parts.
PCTFE is a crystalline polymer and the degree of crystalinity can be affected by its thermal history. PCTFE moulded at higher levels of crystallinity is denser with higher mechanical strength and lower elongation, More amorphous, lower crystallinity PCTFE is less dense, more elastic and optically clear.
Chemical Resistance
PCTFE is unaffected by most corrosive chemicals and most organic solvents. With some halogenated and aromatic compounds slight swelling does occur.
